The Constitution and Bylaws of the

I. Name and Classification
a. The name of this organization is the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, also known as the Spanish Honor Society and shall be referred to in this document as "the Society."
b. The purpose of the Society is to recognize high achievement in Spanish by students of Liberty High School and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies.
II. Qualifications for Membership
a. To be eligible for the Society, students must meet all of the following criteria:
i. Student must have earned a 95 average, including all quality points* in Spanish classes for the previous 3 semesters prior to applying for acceptance.
1. The average will be calculated, at the earliest, from the fall semester of Spanish 2.
ii. Student must have an overall average of 85 in all other academic courses, including quality points for the previous three semesters.
iii. Student must be of good character and not be involved with discipline issues.
*Quality points will be awarded for PAP and AP classes. 2 points will be added prior to averaging for PAP semesters and 3 points will be added prior to averaging for AP semesters.
III. Application and Initiation
a. Potential members must fill out an application for admission in the spring semester following the completion of their 3rd semester in Spanish.
b. Members will be selected by Spanish department teachers based on the student’s fulfillment of the requirements.
c. Students will be notified once they have been accepted.
d. The initiation ceremony will take place in the spring.
e. Membership will be conferred for one year.
f. Members will be reevaluated each subsequent year for membership to verify that they satisfy all requirements.
IV. Continued Membership
a. Members need to reapply each subsequent year for membership to verify that they satisfy all requirements.
b. Membership ends when a student is no longer enrolled in a Spanish class unless he/she has successfully completed an AP level Spanish class.
c. Seniors who have successfully completed an AP Spanish class and have continued to satisfy all other membership requirements will be eligible to wear an honor chord at the graduation ceremony.
i. Seniors not enrolled in a Spanish class during their senior year have the responsibility of confirming their membership with the sponsor prior to the second semester. Students who fail to verify their status will not be eligible to wear the honor cord at graduation.
d. Students must continue to show academic integrity and character as noted by no recorded incidents or cheating, plagiarism, misconduct, insubordination or intentional dishonesty.
e. Failure to comply with the qualifications for Continued Membership may result in loss of membership.
V. Community Service
a. Students of the Society may choose to engage in at least 10 Hispanic community related service hours.
b. Students who complete and document this service will receive special honor at the Induction Ceremony.

VI. Amending Bylaws
a. Members may request in writing that the Constitution and Bylaws be amended in a certain way.
b. If determined necessary, the Constitution and Bylaws can be amended by the Society Sponsors.
